Cisco, a leader in networking technology, tasked Speck Design with creating an interactive product display for their UCS X-Series Modular System. Aimed at demonstrating the system’s simplicity, adaptability, and advanced features in a compact, engaging format, this project was crucial for showcasing Cisco’s innovative solutions in high-density computing and storage.
Our electrical engineering initiative focused on integrating interactive elements within the demonstration unit, including two touchscreens that enriched user engagement. These screens not only provided an inside look at the system but also detailed infographics on its hardware and software capabilities. This interactive approach enabled users to explore the UCS X-Series in a dynamic, informative manner, making the complex technology accessible and understandable.
Addressing the challenge of portability and space efficiency, our mechanical engineering efforts led to the development of a ¾ scaled-down version of the UCS X-Series chassis. This model allowed for the demonstration of the system's modularity, letting users physically interact with components such as the fan and power supply modules, as well as blade assemblies, thereby offering a tangible understanding of the product's innovative design and functionality.
The NPI & Product phase was critical in transitioning the interactive demonstration unit from design to a tangible tool. Our focus on portability ensured the model could be easily transported and set up for presentations, while its educational design allowed Cisco to efficiently communicate the UCS X-Series’ value and versatility, enhancing the sales and marketing strategy.
Our industrial design process aimed at creating a unit that was not only functional but also aesthetically aligned with Cisco’s cutting-edge technology. The design accentuated the modular nature of the UCS X-Series, offering a hands-on experience that was both informative and visually captivating, thereby strengthening Cisco’s position as a pioneer in modular computing solutions.
In the realm of UX design, our objective was to complement the physical interaction with an enriching digital experience. By designing intuitive touch interfaces, we provided users with an engaging journey through the UCS X-Series’ features, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of Cisco’s technological advancements, thereby elevating the overall user experience during presentations and tradeshows.
