At Speck Design, we collaborated with iRice to reimagine the everyday charger. The result is a sleek, 3-in-1 device designed to power iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods simultaneously. Blending bold industrial design with precise engineering, it’s a lifestyle product that fits seamlessly into modern environments with customizable CMF options for personal expression.
Our industrial design journey with the iRice 3-in-1 Charger was rooted in the belief that simplicity can speak volumes. We set out to create a form that felt effortlessly natural—an object you'd want to reach for, whether on a sleek office desk or a cozy nightstand. The clean lines, subtle curves, and thoughtfully placed elements are designed to create harmony without shouting for attention.
But it wasn't just about aesthetics. We wanted this product to feel personal, adaptable, and part of daily life. That's where the dimmable, rotatable light fixture comes in, offering a gentle ambiance tailored to any mood or setting. This detail, along with the CMF variations, transforms the charger from a simple utility into a lifestyle companion, effortlessly blending into the unique rhythms of each user's environment.
Our mechanical engineering team carefully designed a strong internal framework that facilitates efficient conductive charging and is optimized for large-scale manufacturing. We prioritized simplifying the assembly process, minimizing the number of intricate parts, and ensuring that components are easily sourced and integrated. By making thoughtful material selections and refining part shapes, we preserved the product’s sleek and elegant profile to our target cost of goods sold (COGS). This integration of design efficiency and manufacturing practicality guaranteed that the iRice 3-in-1 Charger could be mass-produced without sacrificing quality or profitability. In addition to functionality, we tackled the challenge of designing a product that could be manufactured in high volumes without compromising quality.
