Industrial Design

Our industrial design for Beam focused on creating a warm, elegant, and user-friendly telepresence robot that encourages natural collaboration.
Details

In designing the Beam Telepresence Robot, our primary focus was on creating an approachable and intuitive form that would facilitate natural, face-to-face interactions. We aimed to design a product that was both elegant and inviting, to alleviate any intimidation users might feel towards advanced technology. The aesthetic choices were geared towards making Beam a fit for any office environment, with a sleek and minimalistic look that concealed its complex technologies. This approach pivoted users from intimidation to curiosity, encouraging interaction and collaboration. The design also included a docking and charging station that was easy to navigate, enhancing the user experience and functionality of the robot.

Electrical Engineering

Our electrical engineering efforts ensured Beam's A/V systems and motorized components were seamlessly integrated and highly functional.
Details

The electrical engineering of the Beam Telepresence Robot was centered around integrating advanced A/V and motorized components crucial for a seamless remote presence experience. We collaborated with acoustic engineers to create a superior microphone array and speaker system, ensuring clear in-room sound quality. The engineering process focused on maintaining optimal A/V levels, facilitating smooth communication. Additionally, we ensured that the electrical design supported the robot's navigational capabilities, allowing for obstacle avoidance and efficient docking.

03

Mechanical Engineering

We engineered Beam to be robust and durable, capable of navigating different environments without sustaining damage.
Details

The mechanical engineering of the Beam Telepresence Robot involved designing a base capable of withstanding significant impact without damage. We developed front and rear bumpers optimized for maximum energy absorption and minimal shock transfer. The choice of sheet metal for a flexible and integrated suspension system allowed the Beam to traverse over varied terrains smoothly. Our engineering ensured that the robot was not just technologically advanced but also physically resilient, able to withstand the rigors of daily use in different office environments.
